Taupo Flying Proms Jan 29
3.00pm – 9.30pm at Centennial Park. An amazing event for all the family featuring spectacular aircraft including the famous Red Checkers choreographed to the 50 piece Aotea Youth Symphony. In addition the event programme will feature numerous wine, food and market stalls, special interest displays, dedicated children’s activities and excellent live entertainment from local and well known performers. The evening will conclude with a fantastic fireworks display and a finale with all the performers on the enormous stage.
Waituhi Festival Jan 29 - Feb 20
The annual international Waituhi Festival - Body Painting Festival has settled in the vibrant and amazing Events Capital, Lake Taupo. The annual theme is ‘Maori Myths and Legend' with different subtitles each year. It will be another busy week of workshops gathering artists, models and participants (novices as well as professionals) followed by one amazing day of competitions on the actual Festival weekend. Another colourful catwalk with Body Painting, Air Brushing, Glitter Tattoos, Speed Painting Competition and the NZ International Face Painting Competition can be expected.
Anniversary Gig Jan 30
Nothing blue about a long weekend! It’s Auckland Anniversary weekend and Monday's a day off so why not throw a concert. The Anniversary Gig newly established to the MORE FM Summer Series Calendar, we have a four hour Blue's gig, two bands, both highly credited and portraying a slightly different twist on the Blues genre. This is going to be a great evening of music. Concert kicks off at 6pm. Venue is Riverside Park Unison Amphitheatre.
Hard on the Heels: Capturing the All Black open now til Feb 18
Taupo Museum. An exhibition of 100 photographs taken by Peter Bush in the 60 years since he covered his first test match for the New Zealand Herald in 1949. These outstanding images record more than just rugby. The 40 minute DVD that accompanies the exhibition gives photographer Peter Bush the chance to tell some of the stories behind the picture. Taupo is the only venue in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty area to host this exhibition.
Bromeo and Juliet Feb 8 - 12
Imagine sitting underneath the stars with your picnic hamper at 7.30pm in Riverside Park being whisked away to the world of ‘Bromeo & Juliet’. A kiwi version of the Shakespearean classic which is sure to leave you jumping in your seat. Rappers, kapa haka, music, dance and good ol’ kiwi humour will transport you to the New Zealand tale of Bromeo & Juliet. An annual summer Shakespeare event for the Taupo District. Tickets are available through Ticketek.

5pm-7pm on the Pihanga Reserve in Taupo. Do you know the people in your neighbourhood? If not, we’re giving you more chances to meet them this summer at a fun get-together in your local reserve. From January to March 2011 community events will be held around the Taupo district with the aim of promoting community pride and spirit. A range of activities are planned, including a BBQ, live music, and some good old fashioned fun and games thanks to our community partners.
New Balance Great Lake Relay Feb 19
Don't miss the Ultimate Team Relay on one of the world's most picturesque courses. Renowned as one of the best team building exercises of all time. The 155km Relay hosted over 5000 participants in 2009, come and join us for the 15th year and have some serious fun! The event has been described as the most social and scenic in NZ. Each Team consists of ten to eighteen members, either running or walking to complete the eighteen 5.2km to 14.4km legs around the largest lake in Australasia - Lake Taupo.
MoreFM Winery Tour Feb 20
New Zealand’s favourite songbird Brooke Fraser will headline the MORE FM Winery Tour 2011 summer series along with an all male entourage: chart-topping four-piece band OPSHOP and the popular Auckland rock band, Midnight Youth. Now in its fifth year, the popularity of the MORE FM Winery Tour has seen the run more than double since its inception in 2007. The tour returns by popular demand to Taupo for a second year, with a concert playing at Unison Amphitheatre. Concert tickets can be purchased via the Winery Tour website, Ticketek or TicketMaster.
