Instead of your typical hard-hitting family violence campaign, DIY - Creating Happy Homes is all about encouraging positive change and interactive family activities within the home environment.
The aim of the campaign was to:
- increase awareness of family violence, so that it becomes visible and constructively talked about throughout New Zealand
- increase personal relevance of family violence so that all New Zealanders acknowledge that it involves all of us and that we can all do something to help
- create a social climate that supports behavioural change
- develop a community based campaign that is not just the local face of a national programme)
- have a community-wide focus (which may refer to a particular neighbourhood or identified community)
- encourage perpetrators to face up to their need for change; presenting real and achievable pathways to change and promoting service providers that can facilitate change.
The DIY campaign is a multi-faceted social marketing campaign aimed at promoting positive change in the home.
